My Longest Journey

Weight Loss Journal

Offtrack October 5, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — redfroggy @ 12:24 PM

I am once again offtrack. How long has it been since I posted anything here? It’s been far too long and I need to remember to do at least a little something every day.

My exercise is offtrack too. Something has come along to make it almost impossible to go for a walk almost every day. On Sundays and Mondays it’s by choice as football season has started. But other days there should be no excuses. I know this in my heart and my mind. Unfortunately, not everyone else knows it and they lure me away to do other things that are not as important as my health. OK, maybe some of it is important but a lot of it is not and a lot of it could wait until I’ve done my laps.

I am going to resolve, once again, to get back on track both with this blog and with my exercise. I hope this doesn’t sound like an empty promise since I’ve said it so many times before. : \

On a good note, I have not gained back any weight and, in fact, continue to lose a little at a time. I’d be sailing if I was actually exercising!

Ah… yes… September 2, 2010

I seem to be failing badly at this rededication thing. It’s been over a week and I haven’t posted. I’ve thought about it several times but my fingers never quite make it to actually typing something up. I even failed to post a weigh-in on Saturday. *sigh* I suck! haha

Well, I will tell you, I weighed myself on Monday morning and I was at 363.6 (not sure about that 1/10th, I think it’s right though). I believe that’s a loss of about 7lbs since the last time I posted a weight. That’s not bad!

So, I’ve been walking at the park. I usually do about 6 laps, which is (if it’s a standard track) a mile and a half. Not bad for a fat chick, right? I think it’s doing me well. I’ve found my ankle and wrist weights too so I’ve been using them. Only 1lb in each but it’s still a help. I’ll upgrade the weight as I get more used to the walks.
In other news, my mother & husband goaded me into purchasing a bicycle. It’s a really nice bike. It’s a beach cruiser style in a nice pale green with a big wide leather seat. It has big wide wheels and nice strong spokes. I like the bike. I had mentioned first about wanting it but mostly forgot about it. And when I had decided I should get it, they were out! (Huffy, only $75 @ Wal*Mart – mens & womens styles) This month, when we went in and they had them, I was forced to buy it. I’ve had it two days and I’ve ridden it both of them. It’s kinda scary. It’s been years since I rode a bike! I was terrified to turn at first (I still am, kinda) but I’m getting the hang of it. Down side of this bike thing.. my legs hurt! haha  They tell me it’s a good thing when you hurt after exercise, I’m not so sure. :D

That’s it for now! Til next time! Definitely on Saturday for a weigh-in and maybe I’ll get some measurements and more pictures in. I can’t promise but I’ll try.
*EDIT* I forgot to mention. My husband says my butt looks smaller and my scrubs from school are fitting looser (along with other clothes) so that’s good! The whole butt smaller thing has me wondering if my tailbone hurts more now after I’ve been sitting a while because it has less padding. Meh! I can deal with such things if it means being healthier overall.

Rededication! August 23, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — redfroggy @ 5:14 PM

I have dreadfully neglected this blog for the last couple of weeks (though not my commitment to my weight loss). I need to rededicate myself to it.

I think that using it as a food journal was not working for me. I’ve been considering using it as a review of my emotions and insights into what I’ve been up to over the days between posts. I don’t think that I’ll be able to post daily but I can see every other or every three days being common. I think also, that posting consistently but with gaps in time I’ll be able to add more interest to the blog. I will, of course, still give details of weigh-ins and the like and probably give details on the exercise I’ve done. Other than that, I’m thinking that I’ll not even mention food unless I’ve done something horrible. >.<

I guess that’s it for now.

Oh, Saturday weigh-in was 366. That’s a loss of 4 lbs. Woot! :D

End of Week 2 – Weigh-in August 7, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — redfroggy @ 1:10 PM

I didn’t do my weigh-in yesterday because I forgot to do so before I ate in the morning. I try to weigh myself first thing in the morning before I eat or drink anything (don’t want that stuff skewing my numbers).

370.8

Gain of .4lbs.

Last week was a bad week. I actually gained back the 3lbs I’d lost and had to lose them again. I’ve done much better this week. I’ll keep that up!

Days 10, 11, 12 & 13 August 4, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — redfroggy @ 9:12 PM

Well, I goofed and missed a number of days. I couldn’t tell you why I missed them. Truthfully, it just slipped my mind. I didn’t even remember the blog at all except my husband mentioning taking more pictures on Sunday night (they were supposed to be done Friday).

I honestly cannot remember most of what I ate on Sunday at all.  I do recall that we went grocery shopping and that took about 4 hours and we got home at midnight with the groceries so we ate some Del Taco (fish tacos!). I guess we’ll pretend day 10 didn’t happen. hehe

Kashi cereal with milk

Half a turkey sandwich, salad with ranch, carrots

‘small’ nachos with cheese, ground beef and refried beans, peach

Lowfat Yoplait yogurt

I got discouraged today because I’m writing this blog (when I don’t forget to do so) because it’s my way of sharing my battle to lose weight and I get little feedback on it. I know I shouldn’t need anyone else’s validation on what I’m doing but I’d like it. I just need to be told I’m at least doing a good job because I’m trying. Some people don’t try at anything in life, EVER! And some people, like me, sadly, have low self-esteem sometimes. Now, my self-esteem is so much greater than it used to be but it’s still sags at time. I still doubt I’m a good person sometimes and when my husband tells me I’m beautiful, I’m not always sure I believe it. Now, I’m not asking people to cheer for every little thing. I don’t want that! What I’d like, is a word or two once in a while. I know this sounds horrid & beggy but the people who know of this blog are the people I trust with such information. I don’t tell many people what I weight. :P That’s it, I guess.

Week 2 – days 8 & 9 August 1, 2010

Day 8 – Friday 7/30

Not one of my greatest eating days but it was because I finally got to hang out with my friend whom I hadn’t seen since November! I did try my best for the most part so it’s all good! I can make it up during the week.

FOOD

Jr. bacon cheeseburger x2 and about 10 french fries from Wendy’s

Munchies – approx. 1/3 a bag (shared)

Lemon pepper chicken wings (naked) & some Lotsa tots from Hooters

Bag of Kettle brand Loaded Baked Potato chips

EXERCISE

Walked around shopping area in Long Beach (not sure of length of walk but probably somewhere near 3/4-1 mile)

See, not great! But not completely horrid either. The lemon pepper from Hooters is delish and has no calories so all the calories were in the chicken. I got them naked (meaning no breading) so that was a bonus too. Worst thing was the Tots then with their cheese sauce, bacon and sour cream. And the walk, well, I was kinda hot and a little sweaty after it so I got a workout from it.

Day 9 – Sat. 7/31

FOOD

Dannon Light Yogurt

Approx 1/4c Artichoke dip with a few corn chips, 11/2 of a cheese stick, a little quesadilla thing (perhaps 1/4 of a tortilla with some cheese & chicken in it), 1 small piece of BBQ boneless chicken from Applebee’s

Hamburger with avocado, lettuce, tomato; 1/2 cup of french fries

Red beans & rice, Tillimook Huckleberry yogurt (not light)

EXERCISE

Vacuuming and walking around Walmart

Hurt my back last night, possibly pushing the hubby into the house (his chair was dead). Walking hurts so I didn’t want to do too much (everything hurts, if you’re wondering sitting, standing, walking, lying down). I did vacuum a bit when we got home.

The hubby & I went to Applebee’s for an ASB meeting for school and they had appetizer platters, they offered and I accepted a bit (it wasn’t much in the grand scheme of what was there). I was offered far more than what I ate. Oh, and I had lime in my diet Pepsi.

*Note on what I’ve been eating and doing* Some part of me, not wanting to be judged harshly (because it’s happened so often in the past I just don’t want it anymore) keeps trying to tell me “don’t put that, you shouldn’t eat that” and wishing me to omit it. Fortunately, the part of me that is truly dedicated to this tells that other part ‘no’ and I put it on here anyway. I’m being as truthful as I possibly can and trying not to omit anything, either by forgetfulness or by shame. That shamed part of me also wants to tell you that I jog 5 miles every day but that, too, I won’t do. I am proud of the exercise I do, I am proud of my walks even if they’re as short as 1/4 mile and I’ll continue to be even when (and if) they are 3 miles.

So, in other words, what I’m saying is that I’m committed, I’m proud of what I do even if it’s not the best and I will not lie just to save myself the shame. I am going to strive to better myself more and more and reach my goal as soon as possible!

One last thing, Happy Birthday Harry Potter & J.K. Rowling (which is now technically yesterday since I’m late in posting but whateva!)

End of week 1 – weigh-in July 30, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — redfroggy @ 9:39 AM

370.4

Loss of 3lbs!

Yay! Good job, me! I know it’s not the most impressive thing ever but it’s a start. The doctor has said something about 2lbs a week so I beat that. I think an increase in my daily exercise should raise that number a bit. My exercise was somewhat lax this week.

Day 6 & 7 July 30, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — redfroggy @ 8:48 AM

Day 6 – Wed. 7/28

Not a whole lot to report, actually. Just the normal BS.

FOOD

2 eggs over easy, slice of bread

1/2 turkey sandwich on whole wheat with a bit of mayo, salad with ranch dressing, mixed fruit (papaya, strawberry, pineapple, mango)

2 slices of cheese pizza (one Costco slice)

chicken & broccoli pot pie

EXERCISE

Walked around Costco

Day 7 – Thurs. 7/29

Better day today, especially since it’s my Friday. I get to relax and not stress about school. Instead I can stress over how well this eating and exercising routine is going. So far, so good, I think! The hubby and I may go see Inception. Makes the day 10x better. Exercise was good but could have been better. Went to the nearby park but we couldn’t do the walking track properly because someone was parked blocking the handicap access to one part of it and the rest of it is not ADA compliant.

FOOD

Maple & brown sugar oatmeal

1/2 turkey sandwich on whole wheat with a bit of mayo, salad with ranch dressing, mixed fruit (papaya, strawberry, pineapple, mango)

1/2 cup corn nuts

pork rib, cooked in the broiler with salt, pepper, paprika & garlic; smashed potatoes, green beans

Dannon light blackberry yogurt, 1c popcorn

EXERCISE

Walked in the park, medium to fast pace. Probably 3/4 – 1 mile.

Days 4 & 5 July 28, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — redfroggy @ 7:28 PM

*my apologies, totally forgot to post this last night!*

Day 4 - Mon. 7/26

No weigh-ins. That will come on Friday. Let’s hope it’s a good thing! Picked up a measuring tape so that I can measure myself. I’ll see changes there too so I figure it’s a good plan.

FOOD

Oatmeal

Cheese, chicken & a couple of crackers, carrots

Two pieces of fried chicken, some french fries

30g of corn nuts & 1/2 cup sugar-free lime jell-o

EXERCISE

Walked around Wal*Mart, housework

Day 5 – Tues. 7/27

Electric company was doing some maintenance in the area today so we had no electricity this morning. It limited our choices of breakfast because we couldn’t use the stove (electric ignition). Oh well, we made due.

FOOD

small bowl of corn flakes with low-fat milk

Half a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread with a bit of mayo, blueberries, small salad with a bit of ranch dressing.

Approximately 1/2 cup of cornnuts

Baked pork chops with ‘homemade shake & bake, green beans, white rice.

sugar-free pistachio pudding

EXERCISE

.8 mile walk – somewhere just over 2400 steps (the pedometer turned off before I could get the exact number, 2400 is what I saw when I glanced at it while taking it off.)

A good couple of days, I’d say. Except, of course, for the lack of exercise on Day 4. The white rice wasn’t the best either but since our brown rice turned up having moths in it, white rice won out.
